The collaboration brings together the organisations with a shared goal of supporting people affected by family violence and promoting a circular economy by keeping quality bedding items out of landfill.
You Matter’s Havens of Hope program transforms empty houses into safe, fully furnished homes for women and children starting over after family violence. Each haven includes essential furniture, whitegoods, kitchen and laundry items, pantry basics and thoughtful touches that help create comfort and belonging.

With limited government funding, these homes serve as a crucial lifeline, offering not just shelter but stability, dignity and a place to heal.
“By giving items that might otherwise go to waste a new life, it helps create safe, welcoming homes that bring hope and stability to women and families impacted by family violence,” said Deborah de Rossi, CEO of You Matter.
The Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC) plays an important role by connecting participating businesses with You Matter, ensuring that high-quality bedding items are reused rather than recycled or thrown away. This approach extends the life of valuable resources, prevents unnecessary waste, and delivers direct benefits to families in need.
Last financial year was You Matter’s most impactful yet, with 84 havens delivered and more than 108 individuals supported. By giving bedding a second life, the initiative supports the waste reduction while creating safe homes for people escaping family violence.
